Effecting the Next Generation
Hard to believe that we are more than half way done with the trip, it goes by fast. But yet at the same time, it seems as if we have been here for weeks in this amazing county. It is hard to explain: while in many ways it is so raw, as if we stepped back in time 100 years, but yet so simple and uncluttered by the trappings we get used to in America. The more you are here, the more you realize that most of the things we consider to be important or of value truly are things that we can live without. Actually, we would live more connected and full without them. But so many are scared to attempt it.
The other day I was walking back and forth from the new house to our tool shed to get some tools and I was thinking to myself, “is all the money and time I offer of true value? Is it really making a difference?” Is living out James 1:27 all that is cracked up to be? And it hit me. When I think about the support given I think, we are helping feed, clothe and educate our girls, but then started to realize it is so much more. What we do here is way beyond just feeding and caring for some children. It is changing the lives of generations to come. As we finish this new house, it will not only take care of the kids we will bring in, but it will affect their children and their children’s children. When I look at our staff, our amazing Director Juma (who is doing an outstanding job), the house Mamas who care for our children 24/7, our property staff, which manage and care for the property and our security guards, who keep the property secure, I realize we also impact their lives and help provide for their families. This is creating a web of empowerment that will affect multiple generations. And God does that through the all of you who help support Small Steps for Compassion.
